Rearranging a guest bedroom is a fun, inexpensive way to get your creative juices flowing… Setting a budget always makes things interesting, and will often force us to find ingenious and innovative ways to save money. Bedding can be inexpensive if kept neutral and simple, but lamps can be costly and what happens if a wayward guest knocks one over in the middle of the night? A few ideas… challenge yourself to a little walk down the ugly lamp isle at your local Salvation Army or Goodwill store. Now, remove the heinous shade…. okay, now picture it with a different color base and perhaps an updated drum shade, or a classic bell shade. Here’s a great secret, WALMART has the most inexpensive shades around. For about $15.00 you can get a great looking new hat for your lamp. Don’t be afraid to get out the spray paint and customize the base of your new fixture! Really, the sky’s the limit. For about $4.00 you can get a lamp, $15.00 will get you a shade, a few bucks of spray paint and your good for a new look. Using your imagination to CREATE what you want, rather than just going out and buying it will make it special for both you and your guests.
