Style emerging…..

weeds

Why is it that it’s so difficult to tell an emerging weed from a flower early on in Spring?? For all I know I’m hacking out my perenials and preparing a fabulous bed for dandilions and other nasty greens.  But I tend to get so excited about working in the garden that it’s hard to me to wait around and see what’s what before making any decisions about what stays and what goes.  And let’s face it, sometimes the weeds don’t look half bad!

The same attitude haunts me in design…. Sometimes I’ll look at something and wonder why I’ve kept it around for so long…  But, amazingly when that item is moved to another area of the house, somehow it looks new again!  Benches become coffee tables, sofa tables become desks, garden statues end up on the kitchen island, and benches end up outside…only to start the whole rotation over again another day!

So, who says a weed is a weed????  Just like who says an old trunk can’t be a coffee table?  My fantasy is to find an old pickup and turn the back of it into a giant garden container!  I’d love to park it in my front yard, only to move it into the back yard, then out by the mailbox, then clean it out and have a picnic in the back, then who knows?  REALLY, it’s an accessory on wheels.. and what could be better????? old truck

So, I want to encourage you to let YOUR STYLE emerge…don’t worry if it’s not tried and true yet, experiment, have fun, move stuff around, breathe new life into anything and everything… (don’t forget the spraypaint!) and tell us what’s working!  (and what’s not!) and most of all, be YOURSELF and have FUN!

Soo timely that you posted this! I had “weeded out” of my living room this old cool tribal tapestry thingie- I had grown tired of it last fall….when I draped it over and covered my leopard round ottoman (which serves as a footrest and cofee table)….all of a sudden I was in LOVE with my room again- thank goodness not all my “weeds” get to the compost heap- I like to revisit them again and again.
