Joy Junket: The Interview with Danielle LaPorte of White Hot Truth

April 19, 2010

 White Hot Truth’s Danielle LaPorte
We frequently tell clients who are looking to dig out their own personal style to check out one of our favorite books,  Style Statement by Danielle LaPorte.  Not only is the book visually a feast-  the discoveries you make will resonate throughout your life and dare we say change it?  You may accept and understand parts of yourself that you never have…anyhoo enough about the book.
Danielle is an ass-kicking business coach of sorts (although she does not call herself such).  We had a powerful 1 hour FIRESTARTER session with her less than a year ago (gasp!  Can it be true?) that seriously changed how we looked at our business and truly lit a fire beneath us.  It felt right, she got us and we got her.   So we made a lot of changes fast after we got really clear on what our mission was (to use style and design as a portal to finding your authentic self!).    Thus, Joy Junket was born.  So here she is in all of her glory-  want more?  You can buyher fabulous new digital EXPERIENCE callled “The Firestarter Sessions”   We just saw a preview and its FABULOUS info!   There a book, videos and many worksheets to use to hone in on your own entepreneurial wizardry that is unique to you!![sSarah_seidelmKind ann_msn.comK]Kin

Joy Junket:  You seem so brave and so fearles-  but even a rockin woman who lives by her own “white hot truth”  must have fears…when you are struck by insomnia-  what questions keep you up at night?

Danielle:  How can I reach my full potential? What IS my full potential? How can I do all that I long to do with ease?

Joy Junket:  If you could furnish the WHITE HOT TRUTH Lair with anything using ANY interior designer -  what does the fantasy office look like-  give us a visual……..

Danielle:  White walls. A Rothko, a Julian Schnabel, and a lot’s of stuff by my kid – he does the best post-modern-like birds and aliens.

Low oatmeal linen sofas, crazy rugs that look like colourful mutant sheep, chandeliers, an exotic tea station, white desks and overpriced ergonomic work chairs. Wide horse-leg tables for art-making. Wired to the max: movie theatre, killer sound sytems, giant MAC screens, touch screens hither and yon.

And a thinking throne. Yeah. Something in mocha velvet, that sits by the window.

Books are delivered there everyday. Books are MADE there everyday. You can see the creative light from miles away
(sarah and suzi:  ok we are freaking out-  this sounds really cool-  great to have such a distint visual here-  the better you can imagine it the more likely you will be able to create it!!)

Joy Junket:  We see you as a forecaster/trandspotter -  what do you think is next in terms of how people will be looking at their homes and dwellings/the way they LIVE?

Danielle:  Austerity will be the new cool. No…that’s just wishful thinking.

Okay, I’m putting my antennae up for this…and what I get is…STORY TELLING.

People will be more conscious of the true story that goes into making everything they bring into their home. Conscious consumerism. And that means more craftsmanship, quality textiles, the future and the past side by side. And of course, wireless technology will change so much about design. Less clunky, more grace.

Joy Junket:  We totally dig your book Style Statement  and recommend it to everyone who is seeking clarity of their own style-  what are you most proud of that book DOING for others? Or what do you want your legacy to be ….?

Danielle:  I’m thrilled that people are simply asking more questions of themselves. That they’re getting behind their inspiration and making intentional choices. That’s very cool.

Joy Junket:   Do you have any pet peeves about  INTERIOR DESIGNERS?    What do the best design collaborators have in common when working with a client?

Peeves: too much emphasis on trends.

Ace designers: ask their clients how they want to feel in their space. And every choice relates to that desired feeling.

THANKS DANIELLE!  And yes we DO ask our clients (and workshop participants)  how do you want to FEEL in this space?    We love hearing all of the amazing answers…what’s yours?

Want more on style statement-  here is a VINTAGE (can we say that?) video from our archives(:  this was before we had babysitters for videos-  ha!

Love this “vintage” video. You girls have told me about Style Statement, and it sounds like I have more homework to do. :) I love Danielle’s thought on conscious consumerism. I get that! Who wouldn’t want to know where the things that surround us come from–their history. This has got me thinking.

  3. Dyana- Thanks!! I LOVED your interview with Danielle on the sneak preview! I am in trainng with the Martha Beck Gang to enhance my own coaching skills and LOVING it! So fun to see Danielle working with you “live”- loved! I hope our paths will cross someday soon(: Hmmmmm….

  4. LOVE the vintage video–so fun and effortless. This interview with Danielle really leaps off the page–it gives such fantastic insight into how DLaP looks at the outer world and creates her inner world. Fantastic work! I have just purged three big areas of my home and there is SO much space–your post has me thinking about what I really, really want to be looking at, feeling, smelling–thank you!
